Location: CRUCIFIXION CREEK Approximately 10 miles west of Heart Butte, in the Badger-Two Medicine area; STRAWBERRY CREEK—Eastern edge of fire is approximately ½ mile east of Swift Dam and extends south to Sheep Creek on the state land, 17 miles west of Dupuyer; SCALP—Approximately 7 miles west of Teton Pass Ski Area.
Fire Management: Today’s planned actions: Crucifixion Creek-Ground crews are still working out of the Badger Cabin, assessing and clearing the trails and dismantling the structure protection. This crew will likely be engaged in these activities through the rest of the week and have made great progress. There may be some backhaul operations today using the Helicopter to transport materials and equipment. Strawberry-Ground crews are working on rehabilitating dozer line and assessing additional needs and falling hazardous snags. Scalp-Structure protection is still in place on Wrong Creek cabin. All fire personnel that were near Gates Park on the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest are no longer on the fire. A few ground crews are still on the Flathead National Forest side rehabbing and clearing trails since the west side of the fire didn’t get the same amount of moisture. Bear Top Lookout is still going to be up and available through the possible warming trend next week. We still have trail and area closures in place on each of these fires but they have been reduced in size. There are still some areas that need to be assessed for hazards before they can be opened. Weather: Strong westerly flow ahead of an approaching disturbance will bring breezy conditions today. Down-sloping flow may also bring lower RH values throughout the day...although still above critical levels. Scattered showers will then start to push in this afternoon and evening...with temperatures similar to yesterday. Weak cold front will then push through Thursday...perhaps bringing more scattered rain showers and some mountain snow. Widespread rain and mountain snow showers...with cooler conditions...are then expected for Friday.
