Final Milli Fire Update, September 15

Incident: Milli Fire Wildfire
Released: 9/18/2017

Fire Information: (541) 383-5517

Containment: 60%

Size: 24,079

Date: September 15, 2017

Milli Fire

This will be the last update of the Milli Fire

The Milli Fire acreage remains the same with 60% containment. Fire activity remains minimal with the majority of the activity from interior pockets of heat that will continue to produce smoke until a season ending event completely extinguishes this fire. Because of this, we will not produce another fire update until Friday, September 15.

This incident will be managed by a Type 4 Incident Management Team effective September 16, 2017 at 6:00 a.m. The firefighters assigned to the fire will continue to rehabilitate fire line along the northwestern edge of the fire area. Work continues in conjunction with Oregon Department of Transportation and the Sisters Ranger District to identify and remove hazard trees along Highway 242 and continue repairing and rehabilitating culverts, fire lines and burned areas along the highway.

A season ending event will completely contain and control the Milli Fire. While fire behavior remains moderate, the fire will continue to burn until completely extinguished by rain or snow. The west side of the fire will continue to burn down slope with occasional torching in pockets of timber in the Three Sisters Wilderness and will continue to extinguish naturally when it runs out of fuel in the lava fields. Fire will also continue a slow move to the southwest in the Pole Creek burn area where overhead hazards remain a concern for firefighter safety. If necessary, the team managing the fire will assess the need to bring in helicopters to cool the hot spots with bucket drops.
