The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has dropped all evacuation notices that were in place for the Milli Fire as of 6:00 a.m. today, September 6. The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office has continued to coordinate with fire managers on the Milli Fire, the Sisters Ranger District, and Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District to minimize impacts to Sisters residents. This drop in evacuation levels reflects the confidence of all forest and fire managers in containment lines around the Sisters community. All Deschutes National Forest closures remain in place.A local Type 3 incident management team led by Incident Commander Jake Akerberg, took command of the Milli Fire today. This team is based in Sisters at the Rodeo grounds and will continue managing the fire in conjunction with officials from the Deschutes National Forest and the Oregon Department of Forestry, Central Oregon District.Firefighters will continue mop up the northwestern edge of the fire while rehabilitating and repairing fire line. Crews, dozers, excavators and wood chippers continue to knock down berms and return control lines and dozer lines to a more natural state. Fuels within the secured fire perimeter will likely to continue to burn producing a moderate level of smoke. These areas will be patrolled by the team. Acreage on this fire will likely grow moderately in the coming week while containment remains at 60%. The west side of the fire continues to burn down slope with occasional torching in pockets of timber in the Three Sisters Wilderness and will continue to extinguish naturally when it runs out of fuel in the lava fields. Fire will also continue a slow move to the southwest in the Pole Creek burn area where overhead hazards remain a concern for firefighter safety. When necessary, firefighter will utilize indirect firefighting tactics like helicopter bucket drops to cool hot spots.
