Smoke Forecast/Air Quality Report 8-24-17

Incident: South Fork Fire Wildfire
Released: 8/24/2017

Smoke: Decrease in fire activity yesterday resulted in a reduction of residual morning valley smoke today. Still expect morning smoke impacts the valleys, clearing in the afternoon. Short duration smoke impacts possible around Tuolumne Meadows. Only minor smoke impacts, if any, to the eastern side of the crest. Fire: South Fork: 4188 acres, 27% contained. Crews continue to hot spot and cold trail the southeast portion in an effort to halt eastern spread of the fire. Empire: 1900 acres. Monitor status, light activity expected. Other: Dense smoke for short periods can aggravate symptoms for sensitive persons without changing 24-hr AQI levels. Note: AQ forecasts below reflect only particulate matter - not ozone.
