Fire Size: 2,548 Containment: 12% Fire Personnel: 447

Public Meeting Notice: A public meeting will be held at the Lincoln County High School at 6 pm today.

Current Status: Yesterday’s burning operation proved to be a success in creating a buffer to the main fire. Smoke was increased by the use of aerial ignition burning operations yesterday afternoon and will be noticeable again today. The fire is contained near the intersection of Foothills Road and Sherman Creek resulting in an overall containment of 12%. Approximately 11 miles of shaded fuel breaks have been developed along the Foothills and Grave Creek roads, north and south of the fire. Mop up operations will continue, where firefighters seek out and suppress any residual heat sources, focusing on the areas around structures. Temperatures will reach 80 degrees with the relative humidity at 24 %, winds will be variable in the morning at 3 MPH and out of the southwest at 10 MPH. No rain is in the forecast for today.

Planned Actions: Burning operations along the south side of the fire may continue today if the shading fuels break operations are completed. The Deep Grave Creek Divide area will be placed under a temporary closure affecting all traffic. The intention is to keep the fire burning at low intensity and slowly burning downhill today. This is intended to contain the fire with the least amount of negative impact to the forest. Again, continuing efforts will be made for structure protection by firefighters while holding the fire along the Foothills Road, they will be constructing additional containment line, extending shaded fuel breaks, and mopping up near structures.

Evacuations: Residents continue to be required to sign in and provide contact information at the checkpoint located Lick Lake and receive a permit to enter that will be placed on the dash board of the vehicle. Non-residents are not allowed in the closure areas.

Closures: Grave Creek road and the Ten Lakes recreation area remain closed beginning at the junction of Grave Creek and Stoken Roads. And please note that Lincoln County is still in Stage II Fire Restrictions.

Cooperating Agencies: US Forest Service (Jurisdiction), MT Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln County Emergency Management Services, Eureka Volunteer Fire Department, Trego-Fortine-Stryker Volunteer Fire Department, Red Cross.
