Cooperating Agencies: US Forest Service (Jurisdiction), MT Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Eureka Volunteer Fire Department, Trego-Fortine-Stryker Volunteer Fire Department, Lincoln County Emergency Management Services, Red Cross.
Fire Size: 2,021 Containment: 12% Fire Personnel: 449
Current Status: Dry and breezy conditions for the fire area are expected throughout today. Moderate fire behavior when winds and the slopes align will cause tree torching and spotting of the fire. The fire is contained near the intersection of Foothills Road and Sherman Creek resulting in an overall containment of 12%. Approximately 11 miles of shaded fuel breaks have been developed along the Foothills and Grave Creek roads, north and south of the fire. Mop up operations will continue, where firefighters seek out and suppress any residual heat sources, focusing on the areas around structures.
Planned Actions: To lessen the fire threat to homes, operations will be conducting ignitions this afternoon along the south side of the fire. The Deep Grave Creek Divide area will be placed under a temporary closure affecting all traffic. The burn operation will be conducted using aerial ignition processes. Fire activity will be noticeable but controlled. The intention is to keep the fire burning at low intensity and slowly burning downhill over the next several days. This is needed to contain the fire with the least amount of negative impact to the forest. Also, continuing efforts will be made for structure protection by firefighters while holding the fire along the Foothills Road, they will be constructing additional containment line, extending shaded fuel breaks, and mopping up near structures.
Evacuations: Residents are allowed back in their homes as of Monday at 12:00 pm. They continue to be required to sign in and provide contact information at the checkpoint located Lick Lake and receive a permit to enter that will be placed on the dash board of the vehicle. Non-residents are not allowed in the closure areas.
Closures: Grave Creek road and the Ten Lakes recreation area remain closed beginning at the junction of Grave Creek and Stoken Roads. And please note that Lincoln County is still in Stage II Fire Restrictions.
