August 11, 2017 PM Update
The Parker 2 Fire is currently 7,949 acres and 55% contained.
Today, crews worked directly along the fire perimeter, mopping up and “cold trailing:” using an un-gloved hand to feel for heat near the fire’s edge. In general, lines look good along the north side of the fire, with just a few areas of heat detected. Crews smothered or extinguished those isolated areas as they found them. They continue to work into all the fingers and spots of fire, using infrared heat sensing to help them determine where potential hot spots might still exist. Fire lines are still being constructed and reinforced in some areas, including along the Granger Canyon Road west toward the Deep Creek-Parker Road and on the southeast edge of the fire in Wilderness. Crews are continuing suppression repair on contingency lines, including along the Deep Creek Road and other areas north of the fire.
Residents in the fire area should be aware that smoke and occasional flare-ups will be visible inside the fire perimeter as unburned islands of vegetation continue to ignite and burn.
As predicted, the weather today was considerably drier than in previous days, with westerly winds picking up in the afternoon. Tomorrow’s forecast is similar to today.
