Guess who's coming to fire camp? Smokey Bear will make a guest appearance at our Camp Tour on August 10, 2017 at 2pm. The tour will be held at the Parker 2 Fire Incident Command Post at the Rotary Fields in Alturas. Please let us know you're coming by calling us at 530-276-8097 or emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Parker 2 Fire is currently 8079 acres and 30% contained.
Significant thunderstorm activity and heavy precipitation hampered containment work overnight. Today, firefighters will work to mop up the western side of the fire, carefully checking firelines for any heat or hazards near the edge that might compromise containment. On the northeastern side of the fire, crews will continue direct line construction, suppressing the fire directly adjacent to its edge. The fire west of County Road 1 hasn’t moved for multiple days, and crews continue to mop up and patrol the area. Several crews have been staying overnight in the Pepperdine Campground to lessen the drive to the fire, and they will continue working directly on the fires’ edge, using natural barriers to stop fire spread in the Wilderness. Neither the Campground nor the private properties around Tom Lee Meadows sustained damage.
Low pressure in northern California is keeping monsoonal moisture and thunderstorms in the area. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening. Heavy rain, and hail, accompanied by abundant lightning and gusty outflow winds are possible through this evening. A drier trend is expected to begin on Friday.
