Liberty Fire Ops Brief for Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 by Planning Operations Section Chief trainee, PLOPS(t) Bill Panagopoulos. Historically, wildfires in this part of Montana burn from the Northwest to the Southeast due to terrain & winds. The Liberty Fire is in its 46th day of existence so it will come as no surprise that while the fire is still raging and pushing against the latest set of containment lines, which are so far holding but will be tested this afternoon with today's Red Flag Warnings, to the construction of contingency lines in the Southeast section of the fire to the ongoing recovery and suppression repair operations taking place on the Northwest section of the fire near its origin.
