ORLEANS, California, September 22, 2017 (

Current Fire Situation: The Orleans Complex is currently 27,276 acres and is 66% complete. The Haypress Fire, the largest in the complex, has burned 21,127 acres and is 23% complete.

Fire crews are continuing to emphasize working on direct line, water bars and suppression repair in addition to locating, pulling and removing surplus hose and pumps. Cool, moist weather conditions over the past few days have been aiding the firefighting efforts. Repair work has begun on some dozer lines and roads in the northern section of the fire.

Safety: Increase in precipitation, rock and mud slides and debris have been creating potentially hazardous driving conditions for fire crews.

Hunting season is currently open and portions of the Six Rivers and Klamath National Forests are closed. Contact your local ranger station for current closure information. Motorists traveling on State Highway 96 are reminded that there will be numerous firefighting vehicles on the roadway. Please drive with caution.

Weather: The cool and wet pattern is expected to end and a warming and drying trend will begin with temperatures predicted to be in the 90’s later next week. Winds are predicted to be light.

Closures: The Klamath National Forest has issued Closure Order No. 17-05-801 to close trails, roads, and lands on the Ukonom Ranger District as a result of Orleans Complex fires.
