ORLEANS, California, September 21, 2017 (https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5430/) Yesterday, at 6:00pm South-Central Sierra Type 2 Interagency Incident Management Team with Incident Commander Deron Mills assumed command of the Orleans Complex.

Current Fire Situation: The Orleans Complex is currently 27,226 acres and is 66% completed. The Haypress Fire, the largest in the complex, has burned 21,127 acres and is 23% completed.

Suppression repair continues as resources take advantage of favorable weather conditions to complete direct line. Repair work has begun on some dozer lines and roads in the northern section of the fire. Rain from the last days resulted in minimal fire behavior which has continued to inhibit growth on the Orleans Complex.

Safety: Fire weakened trees and snags from previous fires present significant hazards to fire suppression personnel. Due to the increase in precipitation, rock and mud slides and debris will also be contributing to hazardous conditions.

Hunting season is currently open and portions of the Six Rivers and Klamath National Forests are closed. Contact your local ranger station for current closure information. Motorists traveling on State Highway 96 are reminded that there will be numerous firefighting vehicles on the roadway. Please drive with caution.

Weather: A colder pattern is expected to produce frosty conditions over the next day with temperatures dropping into the mid-30s during the early morning. Expect clearing and warming midday today, with temperatures increasing. A general trend towards seasonal warming and drying is expected toward the weekend, with temperatures possible in the 90’s by Tuesday. Precipitation totals in the area for the storm system totaled 0.87”.

Closures: The Klamath National Forest has issued Closure Order No. 17-05-801 to close trails, roads, and lands on the Ukonom Ranger District as a result of Orleans Complex fires:
