The Forest Service issued a revised trail and area closure order August 23, 2017 for the area surrounding the Indian Creek Fire. The new closure order includes Eagle Creek Trail #440, beginning 3.3 miles southwest of the Eagle Creek Trailhead at High Bridge and ending at its terminus where it intersects with the Pacific Crest Trail. This includes the portion of the Eagle Creek Trail within the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness. The closure also includes adjacent trails Eagle Benson Trail #434, Indian Springs Trail #435, Eagle Tanner Trail #433, all of Tanner Butte Trail #401, Chinidere Cutoff Trail #406M, and the Wahtum Lake Trailhead. In addition, Forest Road 1310 east of the junction with 1311 to its terminus at Wahtum Lake is closed to the public.
Wahtum Lake Campground and Indian Springs Campground are closed. On the Eagle Creek Trail, Tunnel Falls is closed but Punch Bowl Falls remains open. The Pacific Crest Trail #2000, Chinidere Mountain Trail #445 north of the PCT, and Rainy Wahtum Trail #409 are open.
A crew is posting closure signs in the area.
Violations are punishable with fines of not more then $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both.
