The Level 3 evacuation “GO!” notice issued for all residents on Illinois River Road within the US Forest Service boundary, including the Oak Flat Community, is being reduced to Level 2 (Effective 6 PM on Friday, September 15, 2017). A Level 2 evacuation notice means “BE SET” to evacuate. You must be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.
The US Forest Service has closed Illinois River Road and is turning back public traffic along this road. We strongly advise travelers to avoid this area so the appropriate wildland firefighter resources can accomplish their work and respond to this emergency. Residents with proper identification may travel in and out of this area only at night, between the hours of 6 PM and 6 AM. The daytime closure is to allow heavy equipment to continue work on Illinois River Road developing a firebreak.
Also, the Level 1 “BE READY” evacuation notice for the residents of the Illinois Valley, west of Highway 199 from Hayes Hill to the California state line is being removed (Effective 6 PM on Friday, September 15, 2017). Residents should always be prepared for changing fire conditions.
