Chetco Bar Fire Air Quality Outlook September 3, 2017 9am

Chetco Bar Fire Wildfire
News – 9/3/2017

Outlook for Chetco Bar Air Quality

Smoke: Extreme smoke impacts continue to be seen in

local communities surrounding the Chetco Bar Fire,

including Brookings, Gold Beach, Agness and Cave

Junction. Heavy smoke continues to drain and settle in

valleys and low-lying areas. Unhealthy to Hazardous air

quality levels are expected in association with reduced

visibility along Highways 101, 199 and other local

roadways. Coastal areas North of the fire, such as Gold

Beach, should see improvement this afternoon with

Northwest winds developing; it is possible Brookings and

Agness may see some improvement late this afternoon.

Inland communities such Cave Junction and Grants Pass

will remain in the Unhealthy to Hazardous range. See

"Wildfire Smoke and Your Health" link below for ways to

minimize smoke impacts.

Fire: Extreme fire behavior is expected again today as

critical burn conditions exist. The fire is currently at

142,857 acres burned and is 10% contained.

Other: The Gold Beach smoke monitor is down and being

worked on. We are also working on the Agness smoke
