Outlook for Chetco Bar Air Quality September 2, 2017

Chetco Bar Fire Wildfire
News – 9/2/2017

Smoke: Extreme smoke impacts are being seen in local

communities surrounding the Chetco Bar Fire, this includes

Brookings, Gold Beach and Agness. This is due to a

stagnant air mass with light and variable winds allowing

smoke to drain and settle in valleys and low-lying areas.

Unhealthy to Hazardous air quality levels are expected in

association with reduced visibility along Highway 101 and

other local roadways. Coastal areas such as Gold Beach

and Brookings may see slight improvement this afternoon

with a light sea breeze. Inland communities such as

Agness, Cave Junction and Grants Pass will remain in the

Unhealthy and Very Unhealthy range. See "Wildfire Smoke

and Your Health" link below for ways to minimize smoke

impacts.

Fire: Extreme fire behavior is expected again today as

critical burn conditions exist. The fire is currently at

142,857 acres burned and is 10% contained.

Other: We are working hard to get the Agness smoke

monitor back online.
