Chetco Bar Fire Suppression Efforts Prompt Further Trail Closures
SW Oregon—As fire personnel continue to assess and implement suppression tactics on the Chetco Bar Fire, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is closing two trails in the fire’s vicinity for public health and safety. Effective immediately, the Upper Chetco Trail (#1102), from Quail Prairie Mountain to its junction with Trail 1109 at Slide Creek Camp, is closed. Additionally, the Tincup Trail (Trail #1117) and its tributary trail, Boulder Tie Trail (Trail #1117B), from its junction with the Upper Chetco Trail to where it ends along Darling Creek, is closed. Closure of these trails is effective through October 31, 2017, unless conditions allow for lifting the closure sooner. Fire agencies in southwest Oregon are working diligently to respond to fires across the area, and once again would like to remind people that with hot and dry conditions comes the increased need for people to be overly cautious with fire. Know where smoking is allowed and where campfires are permitted, and always properly extinguish them. Together, we can work to prevent human-caused fires, to protect people and property, and to limit the fires on the ground during this, the peak of fire season.
