Steep rugged terrain, large dead fuels and numerous snags are the primary safety concerns for fire crews. The safety of fire personnel and human life remain the highest priority. An increase in smoke was experienced yesterday, due to several pockets of unburned fuels well within the fire perimeter becoming more active. The warmer daytime temperature and dryer air are helping the drying of the grass and brush. However, the larger fuels on the ground continue to allow fire spread and produce the greatest amount of heat. Crews will continue to mop-up along the holding line and monitor the fire for significant heat and spotting. Hose lays and sprinklers continue to be used on target areas near the control line. A small night shift group will be in place to monitor the fire overnight and into the morning shift.
A cold front approaching from the north will bring increased winds and a chance of thunderstorms over the fire area this evening and into tomorrow. The temperature and humidity is expected to be similar to yesterday, near seasonal averages.
There are no evacuations at this time. A temporary area, trail and road closure is in place to provide for firefighter and public safety during the fire. Please refer to Forest Closure Order #01-15-14-17-15. An area closure map is posted on Inciweb at the link below.
There is a temporary flight restriction (TFR) over the fire area (five mile radius around Stonewall Mountain and to 10,000 feet in elevation).
Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are now in place - Campfires and other fires are prohibited outside of approved recreation sites, as designated on the fire prevention order. Smoking is prohibited outside of buildings, vehicles and developed recreation sites, unless you are in a 3-foot-diameter area cleared of all burnable vegetation.
