NW Incident Management Team (IMT) 9, Brian Goff, Incident Commander
Start date: July 9, 2017 Current Size: 218,380 acres Percent Containment: 71%
Location: 25 miles north of Battle Mountain, Nevada
Firefighters continue to patrol the fire line today, mopping-up, and repairing damage due to the fire suppression effort on the 218,380 acre Roosters Comb fire. The fire perimeter is 71% contained. Interior islands of unburned fuel remain within the burn area, and fire lines will be constructed today to preserve some of the interior islands for grazing and wildlife habitat. Adequate staffing will remain on the fire and be reduced as the danger from the fire diminishes. Resources are also available for initial attack on any new starts caused by possible dry lightning strikes in the area. Some crews and equipment are also being made available for reassignment to other fires. The burn area includes the majority of the Sheep Creek Range northeast of Battle Mountain, Nevada.
The firefighters and the Incident Management Team want to thank the Battle Mountain community for their support during the fire. Community members demonstrated overwhelming generosity, donating drinking water and other items to the firefighters, including hundreds of pairs of socks. Thank you so much for your support. In lieu of further donations to the fire team, the firefighters urge you to support your local charities and the Wildland Firefighter Foundation at www.wfffoundation.org.
