The following area in Cedar Grove, known as the Cedar East Prescribed Burn Unit, is temporarily closed to all individuals except firefighters, overhead personnel assigned to the Cedar East Burn, or other NPS individuals approved by the Burn Boss:
Kanawyer Loop Trail
The southern side of the Kanawyer Loop Trail, west from the footbridge at Bubbs Creek to the junction with the Zumwalt Meadow to Roads End Trail.
The interior of the Cedar East Prescribed Burn Unit, Segment 1.
A small section of the Cedar Grove Sand Flats Trail will have limited access. This section will be open by escort only and subject to delays.
The fire activity along the trails and inside the burn unit boundary creates a hazardous condition for the public. Adequate trails and features exist in the nearby areas that can provide a comparable visitor experience as well as access in and out of the Kings Canyon Wilderness.
The closure will become effective at 0600 hours on October 17, 2017. This closure will remain in effect until conditions in the area of the prescribed fire have progressed to a stage where minimal public hazard remains, as determined by the Burn Boss or a Parks Fire Management Officer.
