Eden Fire Update
CLINTS WELL, Ariz., Sept. 7, 2019 – The Eden Fire is currently 1,259 acres. The fire grew approximately 200 acres in the previous operational period.
Yesterday, Fire Fighters reestablished lines in the Todd Draw area. Today firefighters will continue ignitions along FS Road 136 and will attempt to reestablish fire in the Windmill Draw area, conditions allowing. This tactic is used in efforts to allow wildfire to fulfil its natural role in the ecosystem, consuming dead and down wood, pine needles and other forest fuels at a low to moderate intensity.
Ignition operations will be evaluated to minimize effects within the Mexican Spotted Owl habitat.
The Feasibility of mixed Severity fire effects to suppress the fire will be continuously evaluated as well.
The public should use caution when recreating or hunting near the fire area due to hazardous fire-weakened trees, burning stump holes and fire personnel working in the area.
With any wildfire, smoke will impact certain areas, communities and roadways. There are no perfect weather conditions that exist to remove smoke impacts entirely from areas near a fire.
Smoke may affect areas including Flagstaff, Clints Well, Blue Ridge communities, state Routes 87 and 260, other Mogollon Rim ranches and communities and Forest Highway 3 (Lake Mary Road).
