Erskine Fire News Release

Erskine Fire Update July 6, 2016 8:00 AM

Incident: Erskine Fire Wildfire
Released: 7/6/2016

Today’s Fire Summary: The type 3 team will transition to the type 4 organization today at 8:00 AM. Today will be the last daily update. Updates will be available if necessary.

Fire crews will patrol the perimeter of the fire and conduct mop-up operations as needed. Smoldering stumps and heavy fuels well within the fire’s perimeter might generate smoke that could be visible for the next several days.

Fire Restrictions: A reminder that the June 10, 2016 order issued by the Sequoia National Forest to restrict fire use is still in effect. It includes campfires or charcoal fires, being allowed only in designated campgrounds; smoking confined to enclosed vehicles or buildings, developed recreation sites and other designated sites; and a ban on fireworks, exploding targets, tracer rounds and other incendiary ammunition or devices in the Sequoia National Forest and Giant Sequoia National Monument at any time. For a full list of fire restrictions and other alerts, visit www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/sequoia/alerts-notices for a list of areas.

One Less Spark, One Less Wildfire Keep fire restrictions in mind while visiting. Hot embers can travel for miles in the wind and it only takes one small spark to ignite a large wildfire. Do your part to prevent wildfires.

Shelters: The shelter at Kernville Elementary will close on Thursday at noon. The Red Cross Safe and Well website is https://safeandwell.communityos.org/cms/index.php.

Road Status: All roads are open with the exception of Piute Mtn Road located within the Forest closure boundary. For more information about the closure visit,

Local Assistance Center (LAC): The center is open at Wallace Middle School, 3240 Erskine Creek Rd. from 9:00AM-6:00PM M-F and 9:00AM-4:00PM Sat-Sun. The center provides information services on disaster relief, how to replace records lost in the fire, and apply for assistance.

The EOC call center hours are intermittent, the number is 661-873-2660. For information about Referral and Social Services, please call 211.
