Fire Closure Areas Reduced on Entiat and Chelan Ranger Districts
An interactive map for emergency fire closures is online [HERE].
Effective September 17, wildfire closures on the Entiat and Chelan Ranger Districts of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest were reduced, allowing additional recreation and hunting access on both ranger districts. The closure reduction was ordered because of decreased risk to public and firefighter safety in select areas.
“People should be aware, while they are out recreating, they may see smoke coming from the fire area. There are islands of unburned fuels that will continue to burn through the fall,” said Acting Entiat District Ranger Randy Whitehall. “The fire perimeters are holding and have not moved significantly in several days. However, if the fire does start moving and threatening public safety, we will increase the closure area again,” he said.
The Entiat River Road is open to the gate one mile past Silver Falls Campground, which has reopened. National Forest lands east of the Entiat River Road are open to Lake Chelan and north to Bearcat Ridge, with the exception of Shady Pass and Slide Ridge Roads, which are closed for road repair work. West of Entiat River Road, National Forest lands are open to the border between Entiat Ranger District and Wenatchee River Ranger District, and south of Maverick Saddle. Forest Service Road No. 5200 and Trail No. 1409 are open.
The closure continues west on the Wenatchee River Ranger District and restricts access to the Chiwawa drainage. Contact the Ranger District at 509-548-2550 for details regarding closure boundaries. Most of the Mad River Trail system is open until regular seasonal closures go into effect later this fall. Klone Peak Trail No. 1425 and Trail No. 1409.1 north of the Mad Lakes Loop remain closed.
On the Chelan Ranger District, Grade Creek Road No. 8200 has reopened from Antilon Campground to the Summer Blossom Trailhead; this area was closed because of the fires in the Chelan Complex.
Fire crews and heavy machinery are still working on many Forest Service roads; please drive with caution and avoid closure areas.
The Duncan Fire Closure area remains in effect until further notice. The closure order and closure map, with a complete list of open trails, roads, and campgrounds are available at the Entiat and Chelan Ranger Stations and the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest website.
