Nickowitz Fire Update 9/22/15

Incident: Nickowitz Wildfire
Released: 9/22/2015

Orleans Ranger District: The fire has burned 7,509 acres, with 93 percent containment and 62 personnel. A helicopter is still being staged in Willow Creek.

There is still one area of concern along Barren Ridge. A few members of the Ukonom Hotshots will be scouting that area and looking for possible containment options.

Stage 2 suppression repair, which includes piling and stacking brush along firelines, has started along exterior lines. Relative humidity was was above 70 percent last night, dampening fire activity.

A closure order (10-15-09) is in effect for public and firefighter safety. This new order decreases the size of the area from the original order (10-15-06), which is no longer valid. The order protects the public from firefighting activities and provides safe travel for fire suppression activities within the closure area. Personnel will provide public safety and hunter education regarding the closure area
