King Post-Fire BAER Closure

King Fire Closure Map and Forest Order

Incident: King Post-Fire BAER Burned Area Emergency Response
Released: 12/4/2014

The Forest Order for the King Fire Closure Area was revised on October 31 reducing the size of the closure area. This closure will continue through the winter and is based on our safety concerns for the winter. A longer term closure for all or parts of the Burn area will not be determined until spring when more information is available. Although you no longer see flames the fire area is still considered unsafe. Several examples of safety hazards are the very likely potential of falling trees as their root systems and the soil structure supporting them have been compromised leaving little stability for the dead or even live trees. Unseen hazards are present as root systems have burned away underground leaving cavities in the soil. Mud and debris flows are another concern.
