Yesterdays fire activity:
With the arrival of the predicted gusty winds the Way Fire’s containment lines passed the test and no acreage increases occurred. Minimal fire activity was observed during the night shift, however the potential for small flare ups remains as some larger diameter vegetation within the fire perimeter will hold heat for some time.
Today’s fire efforts:
Suppression repair work will continue on fire impacted areas. Reinforcement of containment lines continues as air operations support these efforts.
Structure Damage Assessment: Damage assessment performed by Kern County is complete.
The results of the assessment report nine structures destroyed and two damaged by the Way Fire.
Resources assigned to the Way Fire: Demobilization of resources is well underway as other incidents in the state of California require additional personnel and equipment. A Type 3 incident management team is inbound and will assume command of the Way Fire tomorrow morning.
Announcement: The annual Rubber Duck festival will take place today in Kernville. Increased visitors are anticipated therefore caution is advised when driving on roadways.
