YREKA, CA, Sept. 27, 2014 –The Whites Fire Emergency Closure Order has been terminated. Effective Sept. 26, 2014, this opens for public use approximately 73,000 acres or 114 square miles of National Forest land. The closure order was terminated because the Whites Fire is now 100 percent contained, road and suppression repair work is largely completed. Please be careful of standing dead trees, road conditions, and other fire-area hazards. Also note the recent announcement that fire use restrictions have been lifted forestwide.
Many roads, trails and lands within and adjacent to the Happy Camp Complex and Beaver Fire are still closed to protect public and firefighter safety. Firefighters are continuing work to fully contain the Happy Camp Complex, as well as complete suppression repair work—including removal of hazard trees for both the Beaver Fire and Happy Camp Complex. For details about the remaining Happy Camp Complex and Beaver Fire closure areas please visit http://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/klamath/alerts-notices.
As conditions change, the Klamath National Forest will continue to update remaining closure areas.
