News Release June 30, 2014 Final Update
Incident: Assayii Lake Wildfire
Management of the Assayii Lake Fire will go to Type 4 IC Beulah Woodie.
Summary: Management of the fire will be returned back to the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Navajo Fire Management Program on Tuesday morning, 6:00 a.m., July 1, 2014. On taking over management of the fire, Beulah Woodie, the Type 4 Incident Commander will determine if additional resources are needed.
The containment is currently at 98%. When the fire is 100% contained the next step for firefighters is to bring the entire fire under control. Control means the fire is dead out no hot spots, no floating embers, nothing that will flare up again even if winds pick up.
Weather is expected to remain warm, with scattered thunderstorms and occasional gusty winds in the days ahead. Isolated pockets of fuel in the interior of the fire may continue to burn until significant rainfall aids the firefighters in putting the fire out. Smoke may be seen until that time.
All the firefighters and equipment working for the Southwest Area Interagency Type 3 team will be released by close of business June 30, 2014 and made available for other fires in the region.
Currently the fire area remains closed, for updated information contact the Navajo Nation Emergency Operation Center (phone #: (505) 371-8415, 8416, or 8417).
All social media and phone numbers for the fire will be discontinued as of 12:00 noon today. For information on the Assayii Lake Fire efforts contact the Bureau of Indian Affairs Fire Management Dispatch office at (928) 729- 2307.
This will be the final update for the fire unless conditions change significantly.
