Incident: Assayii Lake Wildfire
Assayii Lake Fire Command to transition to local Fire Management Program.
Summary: The fire containment is now at 98%. Management of the fire will be returned back to the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Navajo Fire Management Program on Tuesday morning, 6:00 a.m., July 1, 2014.
After containing the fire within a perimeter of fire line, the next step for firefighter will be to get the fire under control. Control means the fire is dead out no hot spots, no floating embers, nothing that will flare up again even if winds pick up. The BIA Navajo Fire staff will be working in the next days to control the fire.
Weather is expected to remain warm, with scattered thunderstorms and occasional gusty winds in the days ahead. Isolated pockets of fuel in the interior of the fire may continue to burn until significant rainfall aids the firefighters in putting the fire out. Smoke may be seen until that time.
The need for firefighters and equipment has decreased. Resources are being released from the fire and made available to other fires in the region.
The fire area remains closed over the weekend, for updated information contact the Navajo Nation Emergency Operation Center (phone #: (505) 371-8415, 8416, or 8417).
