Assayii Lake Fire News Release

Cause: Human, Under Investigation Location: 10 miles northeast of Navajo, New Mexico
Containment: 60% Fuels: Pinyon Pine, Juniper, Ponderosa Pine, and Brush
Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 12 crews, 18 engines, 4 helicopters, 3 dozers
Total personnel: 597
Highway 134 Opens
Summary: As of 8 a.m. tomorrow morning, June 22, 2014, Highway 134 and all areas to the north will reopen. The five access roads south of Highway 134 continue to be closed due to firefighter and public safety.
Access to the east of Highway 491 will be open and specific areas (see below) to the west of Highway 491 will reopen, however, the area around the fire area is closed.
- The public may enter the 6690 Road south of Highway 134, but cannot travel west of the 708 Road. They may travel back east to Highway 491 and also travel east of the 6690 Road.
- The 705 and 714 Roads are open to the beginning of the Ponderosa Pines, but not beyond. Firefighters are working in the area, so no further access will be allowed.
- The 691 Road is open. The701 Road is open until it intersects the 720 Road. At the intersection, travel is allowed south to the 703 Road but not west on the 720 Road. Travel is prohibited west of the 701 Road on the 703 Road. The public can travel the Loop back east to the 491 Road. All roads east of these locations are open to homeowners only.
In order to open up this area, the public must not travel beyond the roads listed above. Heavy Law Enforcement presence will be in the area to control the closures.
Anyone moving livestock in or out of the fire area must go through the Navajo Nation Emergency Operations Center process for their approval and may only access with an escort. Please contact the Emergency Operations Center at: (505) 371-8406.
This will be the last evening news release for the Assayii Lake Fire. Daily morning releases will continue for the duration of the fire.
