Cause: Human, Under Investigation Location: 10 miles northeast of Navajo, New Mexico
Containment: 5% Fuels: Pinyon Pine, Juniper, and Brush
Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 24 crews, 27 engines, 10 helicopters, 4 dozers
Total personnel: 841
Summary: Last night, firefighters continued dozer and hand line construction along the fire’s edge.
Today, firefighters will again continue with direct hand line and dozer line construction. Crews will patrol and mop up along areas of the fire edge that are secure. Dozer line construction will continue around the northeast fingers of the fire and the southern flank.
Smoke will be visible as unburned pockets of fuel ignite within the interior of the fire perimeter.
Winds are predicted to be lighter today, less than 10 mph. Temperatures will be higher and humidity lower.
There are approximately 50 residences threatened. Five structures have been destroyed; however, that is not a firm count. Personnel continue to assess the damages at this time.
For safety reasons, the general public is encouraged not to travel on access roads leading to the Bowl Canyon Recreation Area. Road closures in the area are N 134 at Sheep Springs to Crystal Boarding School, N 31, and N 30 at Mexican Springs.
