Acres: 13,250 Start date: June 13, 2014
Cause: Human, Under Investigation Location: 10 miles northeast of Navajo, New Mexico Containment: 5% Fuels: Pinyon Pine, Juniper, and Brush
Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 24 crews, 27 engines, 10 helicopters, 4 dozers
Total personnel: 841
Summary: Today, firefighters took advantage of lighter winds and aerial support to construct dozer and hand line along the fire’s edge. As a result, the fire is 5% contained. There was minimal fire movement today.
This will be the last night shift for the firefighters. They will continue to monitor the fire along the 8093 Road.
There are approximately 50 residences threatened. Five structures have been destroyed; however, that is not a firm count. Personnel continue to assess the damages at this time.
For safety reasons, the general public is encouraged not to travel on access roads leading to the Bowl Canyon Recreation Area. Road closures in the area are N 134 at Sheep Springs to Crystal Boarding School, N 31, and N 30 at Mexican Springs.
