The Arizona Department of Transportation has reopened the US 60 outside of Globe between mileposts 253-311 - Globe to just west of Show Low. However, eastbound traffic is being flagged through mileposts 257-261. Please slow down in that area and watch for flaggers and firefighting crews still working in the area. The Copper Canyon Fire started the afternoon of Friday, May 7, approximately 3 miles northeast of Globe in Gila County. The fire was fueled Friday by hot, dry and windy conditions making suppression difficult. It was determined to be human-caused with an investigation into an ignition source pending. There are no evacuations at this time, but all residents should always be in Ready mode and are urged to sign up for their local emergency notification system by going to their county's emergency management website.
