A type 3 incident management team arrived on Saturday morning and is now directing firefighting efforts on the Chikamin Fire. There are 130 people assigned to the incident, which is now estimated at 240 acres.
On Sunday, smokejumpers were inserted into the northeast side of the fire and a helicopter dropped water on the southwest section, cooling it down so that it would not cross the 6210 road. Fire crews, along with masticating equipment, continued work along Road 6210. Crews will continue to utilize natural features, existing roads and trails, and the footprints of past fire areas as they construct fireline to contain the spread of the fire toward the south and east flanks.
Overnight, an engine patrolled the 6210 road making sure the fire did not spot to the other side of the road. Today, three helicopters will be available to work on the fire along with five 20-person crews. Slightly cooler temperatures today will aid in firefighting efforts.
Road and trail closures are in place to provide for public safety and firefighter safety. Motorcycle Rangers are patrolling the area. The following road and trails are closed to public entry:
