The fire is now 85% contained and crews today, will focus on mopping up and monitoring for hotspots within the interior. Evacuation orders were lifted on Tuesday, May 19, at 6pm.
The East Desert Fire started Sunday, May 17, off Desert Hills Drive in the Cave Creek-area. Due to dry vegetation and wind gusts, the fire spread rapidly over the course of a few hours. The fire was determined to be human caused and remains under investigation.
Crews provided structure protection to roughly 130 homes and were able to protect all primary structures.
