The Bureau of Land Management’s Gila District and Safford Field Office will black line and prepare the burn area boundaries for the approximately 15,726 acre South Rim prescribed burn in the Aravaipa Canyon area. The work will occur this Wednesday-Friday. Fire crews will monitor the burned area during and after the work to ensure public safety.
In relation to the work, the following road will be closed from 6 p.m. today (Tuesday) to 6 a.m. March 23 (Saturday).
Rug Road from the conjunction with Turkey Creek to the conjunction with Dry Camp Canyon.
Prescribed fires are intended to mimic natural fire frequency and intensity. They improve the health of the land by stimulating growth of desirable grasses, reducing invasive plants and managing fuel loads so that natural fires are less destructive.
