The Moccasin Mesa Fire was reported by Park Point Lookout at approximately noon on August 4, 2018. This fire is located on Moccasin Mesa near the Southeast boundary of the park, with portions of the fire on Ute Mountain Agency BIA land.
As of 0800 on August 6, the fire is approximately 185 acres.

Personnel supporting the fire include employees from Mesa Verde and Canyon De Chelly National Monument, and Canyonlands National Park; employees from Ute Mountain Fire, Engines from Freemont County and Pike National Forest.
One Type 2 and one Type 3 helicopter, air attack and mutiple SIngle Engine Air Tankers, a 20-person Type 2 crew from Navajo Nation.

The local Type 3 Incident Management Team out of Durango, Colorado has assumed command of the fire as of August 5.

Significant Events

100% containment was reached today. Hand line was completed. An infrared flight found no measurable heat, although ground forces did find some interior stump holes, well interior and not a threat to fire lines.

Outlook

Planned Actions

Transfer of command to the home unit (MEVE Fire) occurred this am at 0700. Resource advisors will be walking the fire line to check the fire, and to make an initial assessment of both fire, and fire fighting impacts on area sites. One engine and Mesa Verde militia will remain committed to the fire as it enters patrol status.

Projected Incident Activity

The fire is not expected to be active. This will be the last update unless further significant activity occurs.

Remarks

After the last 209, the number of personnel on the fire was reduced to 58.
