The Smith Creek Fire was reported on 7/28/2018 and determined to be caused by lightning. The fire is located 19 miles W of Bonners Ferry, ID and 7 miles NE of Priest Lake, ID at the head of Smith Creek, north of Lions Head Ridge. It is burning in subalpine fir with a shrub component in the understory. Fire managers are developing opportunities to safely engage. There are no road, trail or area closures in effect at this time.

Moderate isolated torching, flanking, backing. Fire is backing downhill with individual tree torching.
Continue to improve sprinkler systems.
|Projected Incident Activity|
The fire will continue to back with isolated torching possible. Cooler temperatures and moderate relative humidity will likely lead to minimal growth. Lingering winds from the cold front will likely cause some torching, but significant growth is not expected.
A fire weather warning is in effect until tonight at 8pm, followed by a cold front passage on Friday and Saturday with increasing wind speeds.
