Lyon County, Nevada. June 22, 2018. Crews made excellent progress onthe Upper Colony fire using data from the infrared flight early yesterday morning. Footage confirmed numerous hotshots located in the interior away from containment lines. The Infrared flight determined where fire crews needed to concentrate their activities for the day. The winds tested the containment lines, but the fire continued to be held successfully at 1,202 acres. Fire crews successfully increased containment to 84% today. No structures have been lost.

On Friday, June 22, 2018 the Type III Sierra Front Incident Management Team 2 will begin returning control of the Upper Colony fire back to the local Carson City BLM district. The Team would like to extent their thanks to the community of Smith Valley for their extented hospitality.

Planned Actions

Protection of structures and property ongoing. Secure line and initiate suppression

repair where appropriate. Target isolated heat signatures from IR. Prepare for critical

weather conditions arriving during the shift.

Projected Incident Activity

isolated interior pockets of heat. Weather testing control lines. South and east toward

structures, horse properties, farms and ranches. Potential for spread towards Hwy

208 to the south and structures, farms and ranches to the south and east. Power

transmission line could be impacted. Potential for impacts to Sage-grouse habitat and

the Burbank Canyon WSA.

Remarks

Natural resource priorities include protection of Sage-grouse habitat and the Burbank

Canyon WSA to the north of the fire.

Weather Concerns

Lighter winds are expected into the weekend and

north flow. Humidity recovery will improve some over the weekend only to

become poor again next week with typical afternoon winds. No thunderstorms

are expected through early next week.
