Firefighters are working to contain a wildland fire burning on the West Fork Ranger District near Nelson Creek Trailhead. The fire is currently 280 acres in size and 60% contained. It was discovered on Monday, August 28 by the Bare Cone Lookout. The cause is lightning. Due to the increase in containment and success of fire crews in keeping the fire from moving closer to homes and property, the fire is transitioning to a smaller Type 4 organization today. Containment will remain at 60% until significant moisture is received. The evacuation warning on Nez Perce Road has been rescinded by the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office.

The Evacuation warnings on Nez Perce Road due to the Nelson Creek Fire have been rescinded by the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office. There are no Warnings or Orders currently in effect due to Nelson Fire.
Hold and improve dozer and handline. Utilize air resources including helicopters to assist with bucket work to control fire spread to the northeast of Nelson Creek. Utilize the hose lay along Nelson Creek to keep the fire southwest of Nelson Creek.
