The Cedar Fire, which started from lightning on August 8, is located approximately 12 miles northwest of Seiad, CA, near the confluence of Cedar and Thompson Creeks. The fire is located in a remote, rugged area with limited access.

Timber (litter and understory). Brush (2 feet). Heavy timber with pockets of brush. No recent fire history in fire area.

Significant Events

Moderate backing, flanking, single tree torching. The fire is moving north northeast with slow to moderate rates of spread.

Outlook

Planned Actions

Continue handline and dozerline construction on the east and south sides of the proposed fire perimeter. Begin prep around critical infrastructure along the 19N01 road on the west side for potential strategic firing operations. Engage in initial attack operations on new fire starts in and near the fire area where safe to do so.

Projected Incident Activity

Precipitation has dampened fire spread, but the area is expected to dry out as the week progresses. As the fuels dry out, fire activity is expected to increase.

Warm and dry afternoons will be abbreviated by cool nights with moderate RH recoveries this week. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the 87-97 range. Easterly winds.
