Incident Overview

The Dune Fire started Tuesday afternoon in the Slumbering Hills area, about 20 miles northwest of Winnemucca. Firefighters, engines and air resources battled the fire, which grew to 9,860 acres.. The fire was 100 percent contained at midnight, and was controlled at 4:45 p.m. today. The cause is under investigation. No lightning had been reported in the area for 48 hours before the fire started.
