The BAER Team on the King Fire completed the helimulching for the burn area on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. This was the second contract of helimulching for the project. The first attempt was delayed by weather back in December. The first and second contracts treated a total of 1265 acres.
Under the first contract, 320 acres were treated along Eleven Pines Road; under the second contract, an additional 695 acres were treated along Eleven Pines Road, and 250 acres were treated above Brush Creek Reservoir.
Treatment of the Eleven Pines Road units was paid for by USFS. Treatment of the units above Brush Creek Reservoir was paid for by Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). This includes the costs of straw, straw processing, transportation of equipment, and helicopter mulching with two helicopters. The costs did not include administrative costs of inspections, contract administration, and project management.
