The Freezeout Ridge Fire, in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area (HCNRA) in Idaho, started in the wilderness on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. Since starting on September 6th, it has burned onto the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. The two National Forests are working in conjunction with Payette National Forest to manage the fire. Within predetermined boundaries, the fire is being allowed to play its natural role in the ecosystem while other portions of the fire are being suppressed.

Closures: The following Trail Closures are in effect for public and firefighter safety (see trail closure map:

• South Boise Trail #101 (#101A): Closed from Junction with Seven Devils Loop Trail #124 and #214 northeast to the Junction with Dog Ridge/ Oxbow Trail #625 (#62)

• Trail #194 (#113): Closed from Junction with Horse Heaven Trail #214 east to Junction with Trail #192/191 (#113)

• Devils Farm Trail #114: Closed from Junction with Little Granite Creek Trail #112 southeast to Junction with Horse Heaven Trail #124 and #214


Planned Actions

A Type 3 helicopter and crew will be doing some fire work within the fire perimeter on 10/2/14. On Friday, 10/3/14 the fire will go into Patrol Status under management of the Wallowa Mountain Fire Zone, Nathan Goodrich.

Projected Incident Activity

Fire is creeping and smoldering.
