The Signal Fire was reported by the Signal Peak Lookout Tower (located approximately 10 miles north of Silver City) Sunday, May 11. The fire grew to 5,484 acres and is now fully contained. Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) work has begun to stabilize and restore areas impacted by the fire. Seeding of high severity burn areas will begin in early July. An area closure is still in effect for the Signal Mountain area.
