The Vinegar Fire is located approximately 6.5 miles southwest of Granite, Oregon.

It is burning in the Greenhorn Unit of the North Fork John Day Wilderness Area. There are 32 people assigned to work on the fire.

Many of the containment lines (both direct and indirect) have been constructed and improved. We'll continue to use helicopter bucket work to cool down hot spots near the fire perimeter when they are discovered.

A red flag warning is in effect through September 5. Showers and severe thunderstorms with areas of high wind are in the forecast for the next few days

Effective Thursday, September 5, all area, road and trail closures will be lifted. Please be careful when entering the fire area.

Management of the fire has been turned back to the Umatilla National Forest. The Fire Information telephone number is now 541-278-3722.
