News Release August 20, 2022

St John, WA - The Wagner Road Fire is located 12 miles west of St. John, WA. This fire started on Thursday, August 18th and has burned approximately 7,381 acres of rangeland, stubble and standing wheat.  The fire did grow on Friday but most of the acre change is due to updated mapping vs actual fire growth.  
Evacuations: There is currently no evacuations levels in place for the fire.

Friday, Active fire was seen on the fire during the day.  Fire fighters with assistant from eight water scooping aircraft and 5 heavy air tankers dropping retardant made great progress on keeping fire spread to a minimum.   This combined effort limited fire spread and by the end of the day all forward progress had ceased.  Control lines were completed around 90% of the fire.  By the end Friday containment of the fire reached 80%.

Today, Firefighter’s will work on completing control lines around the fire.  Strategic fire operations will continue to reinforce control lines.   Fire fighters will begin mopping up the fire perimeter further securing control line.
