Newport, Wash., (August 19, 2022) —

There was minimal growth on the Thor Fire yesterday. Creeping and smoldering fire behavior was observed in fuels on the ground. Today, the fire is expected to back slowly down into drainages with similar fire behavior as yesterday. Queen Creek and Thor Creek drainages will be monitored closely for increased activity and any potential alignment between terrain and weather that could contribute to fire spread. All fire activity is currently within established containment lines and is still effectively cleaning up the thick dead and down timber litter on the forest floor.

Crews are working to improve existing roads as containment line, utilizing masticators and other heavy equipment to remove fuels from the area and create a more effective fire break. Weather conditions in the fire area have been favorable for firefighting efforts and given crews time to engage in ongoing line improvement with no challenge to the containment.

Effective immediately for public and firefighter safety NFS Road 2200300 – within Township 39N, Range 44E, section 25, beginning approximately 5 miles East on Sullivan Creek Rd and 5 miles West of Gypsy Meadows will be closed to the public. https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/colville/alerts-notices
