Pine Pond Fire Update August 11 7:15 PM

Pine Pond Fire
Publication Type: News 08/15/2022

Texas A&M Forest Service is responding to a request for assistance in Bastrop County on a wildfire. The Pine Pond Fire ignited on the afternoon of August 11 and is burning in heavy brush and mature pine. The fire is exhibiting problematic fire behavior with group torching and short range spotting.

Several aircraft mobilized by Texas A&M Forest Service are responding to the fire, including the 1 very large airtanker, 1 large airtanker, 3 single engine airtankers, 2 Blackhawks and 3 helicopters.

Aircraft have been successful in slowing fire spread to allow ground crews opportunities to establish an anchor point for building containment lines. Texas A&M Forest Service resources initially included 6 dozers, 4 engines, 2 hand crew modules and 2 Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) strike teams. Additional resources have been ordered to assist alongside several local and county departments.

Evacuation orders have been lifted and residents may return at this time. No homes or structures have been destroyed. Crews will continue structure protection operations.

Texas A&M Forest Service is working in unified command with Bastrop County.
