Dempsey Fire Update
July 2, 2022 10:00 am

Size: est. 11,597 acres
Containment: 96%
Cause: Undetermined

Today on the Dempsey fires crews are back out working on the lines to identify and extinguish any hot spots that either they or the infrared flight from last night spotted for them. Much of this work is now being done by handcrews, 20 person teams that hike into an area with hand tools and chainsaws, and engine crews. Much of the remaining heat signatures are being identified in the difficult terrain and thick vegetation along the Brazos river. Together these groups will be monitoring all lines to ensure that the Dempsey fire stays in place through he holiday weekend.

Yesterday evening many of the dozers and the type 3 Incident Management Team were released from the fire and are traveling back to their home units to prepare for any potential new starts that may occur before or after the 4th of July. Fuel conditions are still very dry and any sparks are likely to cause new wildfires. All residents are encouraged to be careful around fire this weekend, including fireworks and grills. Together everyone can prevent wildfires.
