Burns Creek Fire
Publication Type: Announcement 08/08/2022

The Burns Creek Fire is 60% contained at 397.8 acres. Forward progression of the fire is stopped. The Northern edge of the fire perimeter reached Sommerville Lake and self extinguished, and all flanks have dozer line built around them. On Monday significant heat was still observed in the fire interior, and pockets of grass, and leaf litter caused flare-ups in the afternoon. Aviation utilized to help cool hot spots and containment line included 4 "Fireboss" air tankers which scooped water from Sommerville lake, as well as a large type-1 helicopter used for pinpointing areas of heat. Thunderstorm activity occurred in the vicinity once again today, causing shifting and erratic winds.

2 residential structures and 3 outbuildings are confirmed loss as of August 8th. The cause of this fire remains under investigation. All evacuations are now lifted and all residents on Schulenburg Ln are allowed to return. Power has been restored by Bluebonnet Electric. The fire will be staffed overnight and all resources will return on Tuesday. Please be careful driving in the vicinity of the fire, and be aware smoke may be visible for days. Do not operate watercraft near aircraft or the fire and do not fly drones near wildfires.
